Faith in Action is a national community organizing network dedicated to advancing racial and economic justice across the United States. As a faith-based organization, they unite people from diverse religious traditions to work collaboratively on pressing social justice issues including immigration reform, healthcare access, criminal justice reform, and economic equality. Their visual identity features a distinctive blue color scheme with a recognizable logo that appears prominently throughout the mobile application.
Challenge
Faith in Action was managing their community engagement through multiple disconnected platforms:
1. Facebook groups for sharing updates, articles, opinions, and event invitations
2. Eventbrite for meeting management
3. GoFundMe for fundraising initiatives
This fragmented approach created friction for both organizers and members, making it difficult to maintain cohesive community engagement and track participation across different platforms. They needed a unified solution that would streamline their operations while offering a subscription-based membership model ($5/month, $10/month, and $15/month) with tiered access based on engagement levels.
Goal
To create a unified mobile platform that strengthens Faith in Action's community engagement by consolidating their fragmented digital presence into a single, intuitive application.
1. Creating a centralized social hub where members can connect, share content, and mobilize without switching between multiple platforms.
2. Developing an accessible resource library that organizes educational materials and event information based on membership level.
3. Implementing seamless donation and e-commerce features that strengthen financial support while promoting the organization's cause.
4. Establishing a membership system that enhances community identity and clearly articulates the value of different engagement tiers.
Design Approach
As the sole designer on this project, I took a comprehensive approach to creating an intuitive and engaging mobile experience.
Community Feed
The community feed serves as the central hub for member interaction and engagement within the Faith in Action network.
Timeline Feed
Feed displays posts from organization members with engagement metrics like likes and comments. Admin badges and location tags (National/Local) help users identify official communications, creating transparent information flow across the organization.
Post Management
This interface provides content control through a simple menu system. Members can view profiles, hide content, edit posts, or delete material, ensuring community standards while offering necessary moderation tools.
Engagement & Discussion
The engagement screen facilitates conversations through comments and reactions. The comment prompt encourages participation, while the threaded structure maintains context in discussions, building stronger community connections.
Member Profile View
The profile screen showcases membership information including join date, contact details, and organizational role. The branded header reinforces identity, while membership badges highlight involvement level within the community.
Publishing a post
The post creation features enable members to share diverse media types and gather community input through an intuitive publishing interface.
Post Creation
The post creation interface enables members to share text and media with the community. Users can add photos directly from their camera, access their gallery, or schedule posts for future publication, offering flexible content creation options.
Poll Creation
The poll creation screen allows members to gather community opinions through interactive voting. Users can add multiple options with the convenient "Add" button, helping organizers quickly gauge sentiment on important issues and drive community engagement.
Donation Request
This interface streamlines the process of creating fundraising requests within the community feed. Members can add a donation link and supporting content, enabling grassroots fundraising directly within the social experience rather than using external platforms.
Post Scheduling
The scheduling calendar provides precise control over when content appears in the community feed. Members can select specific dates and times, allowing organizations to plan communication campaigns while ensuring timely delivery of important information.
App Status Feedback
The app provides clear visual indicators of content status, keeping users informed throughout the publishing process while maintaining a consistent interface design.
Post Confirmation
Success indicators with green visual cues affirm when content has been successfully published, giving users confidence their message is now visible to the community.
Posting Status
Real-time feedback shows when content is being processed, providing users confirmation that their action has been initiated and is currently in progress.
Error Notification
Clear error alerts with distinctive red styling immediately inform users when something goes wrong, allowing them to address issues without confusion or delay.
Error Explanation Modal
This modal provides specific information about why a post failed to publish, helping users understand connectivity issues while offering clear actions to resolve the problem or edit their content.
Resource Library
The Resource Library serves as a centralized knowledge hub where members can access educational content, upcoming events, and media resources organized into intuitive "Learn" and "Act" categories.

The dual-tabbed interface organizes content into Learning resources and Action opportunities, highlighting upcoming events and popular content to encourage ongoing education and engagement.
Webinar Details
The webinar event page provides comprehensive information about upcoming gatherings, including date, location, speakers, and a detailed description with RSVP functionality for seamless attendance planning.
Calendar Integration
This modal simplifies event management by allowing users to add Faith in Action events directly to their personal calendars, ensuring they never miss important community gatherings.
Podcast Player
The media player provides easy access to Faith in Action's audio content with standard playback controls and progress tracking, making educational resources accessible in multiple formats.
Act Home
The Act tab interface offers quick access to calendars, job listings, and forms, enabling members to contribute to the organization through various means based on their interests and availability.
Event Calendar
The calendar view presents a monthly overview of community events with visual indicators for important dates, complemented by a chronological listing of upcoming gatherings with location and time details.

This screen provides comprehensive information about a specific event, including date, location, time, and notes, with editing capabilities for organizers to update information as needed.
